Notes from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Our first week in 2011 has been great at York Elementary! We are back in the swing of things and preparing for the end of the second quarter. It is hard to believe that we have been in school almost half a year!

Thanks so much to everyone who attended our parent and staff meeting on Monday, December 20th. We had a great turn out and the room was filled with much energy and enthusiasm as we discussed the future of York Elementary as it relates to our focus on ensuring that York becomes a premier school not only in Wake County , but the nation. We are excited about the possibilities of enhancing and bumping up our current leadership focus to Global Leadership with partnerships with schools in China . There was also much discussion on integrated sciences with a focus on environmental and health science. Look for great things to happen atYork in the future!

There are few items of importance I need to remind you of as we continue our journey into the new year.

Kindergarten registration: Our annual kindergarten registration will be held on February 3, 2011 from 8:45 until 4:00. If you have a rising kindergartner please join us on the 3rd.

Remember to bring your child's certified birth certificate and proof of residence.

Signing In and Out: Please remember to sign in and out at the front office when visiting our campus. We value our instructional time and ask that you schedule appointments with your child's teacher before or after school if you need to discuss his or her progress.

Inclement Weather: When there is a threat of inclement weather please be sure to listen to TV and radio broadcast for updates and closing information. We will also provide a message on the school's answering system with information regarding closing of school.

20th—Annual STEM Night at York Elementary—5:30-7:00

21st-2nd quarter ends

24th– Teacher workday

25th—Parent Education Night with Mrs. Barefoot—7:00-8:00 Media center

28th—Second Quarter Report cards go home
